Magnificent 900 acre ancestral home of the 5th Earl of Lichfield

SHUGBOROUGH, the magnificent 900 acre ancestral home of the 5th Earl of Lichfield, who was known world-wide as Patrick Lichfield the leading photographer. The 18th century mansion house contains a fine collection of ceramics, silver, paintings and French furniture. Part of the house is still lived in by the Earl and his family. Visitors can enjoy the splendid 18 acre Grade I Historic Garden with its Edwardian Rose Garden and terraces. A unique collection of neo-classical monuments by James Stuart can be found in the parkland which also includes walks and trails. Other attractions include the County Museum which is housed in the original servants' quarters. The working laundry, kitchens and brewhouse have all been lovingly restored and are staffed by costumed guides who show how the servants lived and worked over 100 years ago. Shugborough Park Farm is a Georgian working farm which features an agricultural museum and restored working corn mill. It is also a rare breeds centre. In the farmhouse kitchen visitors can see bread baked in brick ovens and cheese and butter being made in the dairy. Throughout the year a lively collection of themed tours are in operation for the coach market. There is also an award-winning educational programme for schools. From April to December an exciting events programme is in operation. Shugborough is an ideal venue for weddings, meetings, conferences, corporate activity days and product launches.
