A handsome, red-brick house which lies between two of London's great open spaces
A handsome, red-brick house which lies between two of London's great open spaces, Greenwich Park and Blackheath. The house was built for a successful seafarer, Admiral Francis Hosier around 1700 who sited the house within view of the Thames estuary and used to boast that the grand bow-windowed gallery commanded the three finest views in the world. Today Ranger's House is home to the Suffolk collection of paintings including elegant full-length Jacobean portraits. The first floor of the house contains an exhibition space. There is also an Architectural Study Collection, with features from 17th, 18th and 19th century dwellings. The first floor houses an exciting programme of contemporary exhibitions. Opening Times: 1 Apr - 30 Sept: daily, 10am - 6pm. 1 - 31 Oct: daily 10am - 5pm. 1 Nov - 31 Mar: Wed - Sun, 10am - 4pm
