The spectacular ruins of a once great house.
An earlier Jacobean manor house, converted in the 19th century into an Italianate mansion, with porticos by John Nash. The adjoining church, by James Gibbs, has a remarkable 18th century baroque interior. The gardens, William Nesfield's `Monster Work' were equally elaborate and contained immense fountains, which survive today. The largest, the Poseidon Fountain, is being restored to working order.
