The largest of its kind in the world
The National Railway Museum is the largest of its kind in the world and boasts a host of record-breaking and history-making exhibits at its 17-acre site. These range from Mallard, the world's fastest steam locomotive, to the opulent display of Royal Trains covering nearly 150 years of Royalty on the rails from Queen Victoria to our present Queen. Steam and diesel train rides are laid on regularly throughout the year and the miniature railway ride operates daily next to the picnic and play area. There is also a children's interactive centre where kids of all ages can try their hand at everything from signal changing to "driving" an InterCity train. The NRM has a regularly changing programme of special events and exhibitions. Restaurant, car park, gift shop, facilities for disabled visitors. Open daily, closed December 24,25,26.
