Great semi-fortified house
The great semi-fortified house at Portumna was built before 1618 by Richard Burke or de Burgo, 4th Earl of Clanricarde. To the north is a formal and geometrically laid out garden, which is often associated with large Jacobean mansions. There are exhibitions in the Castle and Gate House. Conservation works are ongoing. Guided tours of the gardens and part of the castle are available upon request. Limited access for people with disabilities to gardens and Gate House.
