A lovely recently remodeled castle

Built in the 13th century by Sir John Wogan, his direct descendants still use the castle as their family home, carrying the family name of Philipps. Retaining its external appearance, the castle was remodelled inside, above the undercroft in the 1750s and extended around 1800. The woodland and walled gardens cover 40 acres and are part of The Royal Horticultural Society access scheme for beautiful gardens. There is a unique collection of rhododendrons and azaleas, mature trees, unusual shrubs, wild flowers and a large collection of herbs as featured on television. The Picton Gallery is used for nationally acclaimed exhibitions. Events include spring and summer horticultural shows. Historic Houses Association Member. Opening Times: Castle: Apr - Sept. Closed Mon & Sat except BHs, open all other afternoons for guided tours. Garden & Gallery: Apr - Oct: Tue - Sun, 10.30am - 5pm
