Splendid interior and lovely surrounds
This appealing house was designed by William Adam in 1731 for William, 2nd Earl of Aberdeen. Much of the splendid interior is `Adam Revival' carried out about 1880 for John, 7th Earl and 1st Marquess of Aberdeen and his Countess, Ishbel. It is arguably the most elegant house in the north east, a classic English-style stately home transplanted to Scotland. Features of the house include the Italianate sweeping twin staircases at the front of the house, the atmospheric library and the subtlety of the great curving corridor. Opening Times: House: Good Fri - Easter Mon, 1 May - 3 Oct: daily, 1.30 - 5.30pm. Weekends in Oct: 1.30 - 5.30pm, last admission 4.45pm. Shop & restaurant: Good Fri - 3 Oct: daily, 11am - 5.30pm. Weekends in Oct: 11am - 5.30pm. Garden & country park; all year, daily, 9.30am - sunset
