A Tudor and Stuart house with original Elizabethan stables
Godolphin is a Tudor and Stuart house with original Elizabethan stables. The recently discovered gardens show the ancient raised walks and carp ponds and are at present undergoing clearance. The most eminent Godolphins were Sidney the poet, killed in the Civil War fighting for the King, and Sidney the 1st Earl, who was Queen Anne's Lord High Treasurer. His son, the 2nd Earl, owned the famous Godolphin Arabian and a painting of the stallion by John Wootton hangs in the dining room. Historic Houses Association Member. Opening Times: 1 May - 30 Sept. May & Jun: Thur, 2 - 5pm. Jul & Sept: Tue & Thur: 2 - 5pm. Aug: Tue: 2 - 5pm, Thur: 10am - 1pm & 2 - 5pm. Open BH Mon (not Christmas). Groups and tours by arrangement
