The substantial remains of this large castle stand on a rugged escarpment over-looking the River Tees. you can still see parts of the 14th century Great hall and the cylindrical tower. Suitable for disabled visitors. Open late March - late October, daily. Early November - late March, Wed - Sun only. Closed 24-26 December. "English Heritage Photographic Library".   |
