Portmeirion Italianate Village
Place of Interest
|
A fantasy village
Portmeirion, which nestles on a wooded hillside on its own wooded peninsula overlooking the sand, sea and mountains, is much more redolent of southern Italy than North Wales. This 'fantasy village' was created by the architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis who built the village over the years between 1925 and 1972. The village consists of colour-washed buildings, fountains, statues and columns with an amazing combination of architectural styles and influences, from oriental to traditional English
