Isaac Cookson III purchased the Meldon land in 1832. John Dobson, the famous architect, was commissioned to build a house by Isaac Cookson and he recommended the present site. The entrance is through an Ionic porch having two rows of columns to the front door. Once inside you are in the main hall which has an enormous staircase lit by a large window to the north. Between the two World Wars Edwin Lutyens was employed to enrich the Hall, which included mahogany balustrades and 18th century decorations. The garden has a wonderful collection of rhododendrons best seen in early June, an old-fashioned kitchen garden and greenhouses. Historic Houses Association Member.
