A fine 17th century house designed for Sir Ralph Bankes by Sir Roger Pratt and altered by Sir Charles Barry in the 19th century. The house contains an outstanding collection of paintings, including works by Rubens, Titian,Van Dyck and Vel squez. Fascinating interiors include the fabulous gilded leather Spanish Room and the elegant grand Saloon, both with lavishly decorated ceilings. Fine collection of Egyptian artefacts from 3000BC. The house and garden are set in a wooded park, which is home to a herd of magnificent Red Devon cattle. Opening Times: House: 27 Mar - 31 Oct: daily except Thur & Fri, 12 - 5.30pm (last adm 4.30pm).
