One of the most exciting archaeological excavations to be undertaken in recent times in Ireland is in progress at 13th century King John's Castle in Limerick and the site is open to the public. To date over 1000 objects have been uncovered including skeletons of adults and children who died of starvation during the famous siege of 1642. Also on display are a number of Viking houses unearthed during the earlier restoration of the castle. King John's Castle is a major day visitor attraction in the heart of Limerick's Medieval Precinct on King's Island. "Photograph courtesy of Shannon Development".
