The home of Charles Darwin
Down House was the home for forty years of the most influential 19th century scientist, Charles Darwin. It was the centre of his intellectual world and even now his study remains full of his notebooks and journals, and mementoes from his epic voyage of discovery that took him most to the Galapagos Islands. The house is finished restoration so you can now visit Darwin's much loved family home in the tranquil Kent countryside. "English Heritage Photographic Library"
