Dorney Court is an enchanting, many gabled pink brick and timbered manor house with more than just a taste of history. Grade I listed Dorney Court offers a most welcome, refreshing and fascinating experience. Built about 1440 and lived in by the present family for over 400 years. The rooms are full of the atmosphere of history: early 15th and 16th century oak, beautiful 17th century lacquer furniture, 18th and 19th century tables, 400 years of family portraits, stained glass and needlework. Here Charles II once came to seek the charms of Barbara Palmer, Countess of Castlemaine, the most intelligent, beautiful and influential of ladies. St James' Church next door, is a lovely, cool, cheerful and very English village church. "The approach to the house is through ancient Buckinghamshire woodland which transports the visitor into a dreamland. Suddenly the early Tudor house, a ravishing half timbered vision in gabled pinkish brick, comes into view, prettily grouped with a church. This is Dorney Court, a surprisingly little known manor house . happily genuine . an idyllic image." Daily Telegraph. Historic Houses Association Member.
