Croft CastleHistoric Sites & Monuments

Home of the Croft family since Domesday (with a break of 170 years from 1750). Walls and corner towers date from 14th and 15th centuries, interior mainly 18th century when fine Georgian-Gothic staircase and plasterwork ceilings were added; splendid avenue of 350 year old Spanish chestnuts. Iron Age Fort (Croft Ambrey) may be reached by footpath. The walk is uphill (approx. 40 mins). Opening times: Castle: 27/28 Mar, Apr & Oct: Sat & Sun; May - end Sept: daily except Mon & Tue (open BH Mons), 1.30 - 5.30pm (closes 4.30 in Oct). Park & Croft Ambrey: daily
