A principal town of the Roman era
Originally the site of a fort on the former patrol road, Corbridge evolved into a principal town of the Roman era, flourishing until the 5th century. The large granaries, with their ingenious ventilation system, are among its most impressive remains. Corbridge is an excellent starting point to explore Hadrians Wall. Open late March - late Oct, daily. Early Nov-late March, Wed-Sun only. "English Heritage Photographic Library"
