One of the earliest surviving English landscape gardens
Restored to its former glory. Begun by Sir Jon Vanbrugh and Charles Bridgeman before 1720, the gardens were extended and naturalised by William Kent. `Capability' Brown also made improvements. Features include a lake, island with pavilion, grotto, turf amphitheatre, viewpoints and avenues. Opening Times: Jan - 31 Mar: daily except Mon, 10am - 5pm or sunset if earlier. Apr - 31 Oct: Mon - Fri, 10am - 6pm. Sat, Sun & BH Mon, 10am - 7pm. Garden closed 13 Jul all day and at 2pm on 14 - 18 Jul. Nov - end Mar: daily except Mon, 10am - 5pm or sunset if earlier. Last adm. 1/2 hr before closing. Closed 25 Dec & 1 Jan
