Beckford SilkFamily day out, Visitor Centres
|
The silk printing centre at Beckford is a unique rural workshop. Primarily it is a 'fashion factory' for the printing and making of scarves and ties. About 20 people, mainly printers, designers, dyers and colourists work at the centre to produce a wide range of hand printed textiles that are sold world-wide. There is a large car park, a retail shop, a 'seconds' shop and a coffee room. The shop sells a wide range of exclusive Beckford Silk designs at prices somewhere between wholesale and normal retail. Since Beckford Silk was founded in 1975, visitors have always been welcome to watch the printing. The present building was designed to give good access to the main printshop.
